Everywhere we went, people shouted and waved as we passed by.

50% of the population is under the age of 15.

900,000 people were killed in the genocide of 1994 over 100 days, and AIDS has taken a great toll as well. After the genocide, 70% of the population was female. 

Their constitution mandates that at least 30% of the parliament that runs the country be women. Currently the percentage of women in parliament is 50%.

Rwanda is now one of the most peaceful and progressive countries in Africa.
